50,000 reasons why Cooroy is the town with an enormous heart

community benefit

There may have been a GFC in 2010 but that did not stop the amazing efforts of our Club and volunteers who raised over $50,000 for the community through the Community Benefit Events which included the now famous Aussie Trivia, the outrageous good fun of the Barefoot Bowls & BBQs, and the culturally invigorating Art Exhibitions with a twist!

Recipients of these funds were many, and included essential service
organisations such as the SES and the Black Mountain Fire Brigade, care providers Katie Rose Cottage and Bloomhill Cancer Help, and sporting clubs such as the Cooroy Pony Club and Badminton. Young Australian Gymnastic representative Dillon was also assisted, with funds raised to help fly him to Las Vegas in March to do Cooroy proud and compete with the world’s best.
This fundraising was in addition to the extra community services that the Cooroy RSL has initiated, such as the Community bus which provides shopping trips and transport for medical appointments to the elderly and the disabled, the Tourist Information stand, and application to provide Cooroy with a Sport & Recreation Co-ordinator.
Our Club has truly become the hub of Cooroy, and the incredible injection of funds into the Community in hard times continues to ensure that Cooroy has the best in services for all ages, making it one of the most desirable locations to live in the Sunshine Coast.
We would like to thank all members and visitors who have attended the many fundraising events throughout the year, and to the volunteers and businesses especially Guardian Pharmacy who continue to provide the essential sponsorship to make much of this possible.
The aim for 2011 is to exceed last year’s efforts, and the team has a range of events that are not only great fun, but raise monies for the regions non profit sector, and continue to strengthen Cooroy as the caring, friendly town that it is famous for.
For more information on how your organisation can become a recipient, or how you as part of the community can help out,
please contact Sandy Bolton on 54476131.
